Our Purpose
Apeiron Expeditions L3C is Maine guide Alejandro Strong's collaboration with artists, authors, and doers. We lead multi-day trips and shorter excursions based on the shared belief that being in nature opens one up to clarity and creativity. By traveling with wilderness guides and subject guides you will have a stimulating and comfortable adventure in Maine's Northwoods. Regardless of your outdoor experience, our trips offer you a unique way to step away and explore.
As an L3C, a low profit limited liabilty company, Apeiron Expeditions is designed to be focused on more than our bottom line. From the people we choose to partner with to the places we choose to visit, it is our goal to support the humanities, the arts, the environment, and Maine communities.
Our Promise
You are here to have an adventure, we are here to make it possible. During your trip the wilderness guides will prepare each meal, set up and take down camp, navigate the route, and instruct you in necessary outdoor skills. As experts in their respective fields, our subject guides will prepare thought provoking and accessible activities. Whether traveling with authors, artists, or doers you will have the opportunity to build a deep understanding of the theme of your choosing. We promise that your Apeiron Expedition will be a source of reflection and stories for years to come.
Safety and comfort are our guiding principles. The environment can be harsh and dangerous, but your guides have the experience and skill to soften the edges of the wilderness, allowing you to focus on enjoying your adventure. From the moment you sign up, your guides will work hard to help you prepare for your trip. The guides will suggest clothing and gear to help you stay warm and dry, consider your health and dietary information, and plan an expedition that fits with the abilities of every guest.
Our History
Alejandro Strong has spent the last two decades exploring Maine rivers and studying philosophy. During his undergraduate and graduate work, he spent his summers leading canoeing and backpacking courses with Hurricane Island Outward Bound. Struck by the synergy between the ideas he was learning in school and the experiences of those he took to the woods, Strong wanted to find a way to connect these two worlds. Discussions with other thinkers, outdoor leaders, and artists led him to the idea of an intellectual adventure, an artistic expedition.
Our Trips
For the Summer of 2022 the main way to venture forth with Apeiron Expeditions is to do a River Readings trip. We are hoping to develop an artist trip for early Fall 2022.
Packraft Maine
For the Summer of 2022, Alejandro is focusing on getting Packraft Maine up and running. The focus is still on meaningful adventure, but with a shift to packraft and bicycle based trips.
